25-year-old killed over tiff regarding music; curfew in UP’s Deoria district

In a shocking incident that occurred in UP’s Deoria area, a young man was killed by a group of boys after he objected to loud music during Janmashtami celebrations.

According to reports, the incident took place late Saturday night in Barhaj area’s Patel Nagar locality.


As per statement from Deoria Superintendent of Police (SP) Shripati Misra, “On the occasion of Krishna Janamashtami, some youths were playing loud music in Patel Nagar when Munnu Lal asked them to stop, which enraged the group who then attacked the latter with sticks.” He further added that when his sons Sumit and Sachin, along with his wife Sanju Devi, tried to save him, they too were beaten up. Sumit, was in a serious condition when the police arrived.

The police took Munnu Lal and Sumit to the district hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, Sumit died during treatment on Sunday. He was 25 years old.

A curfew has been imposed by the district administration because of the incident and additional forces have been deployed in the area to maintain law and order. As per last reports, efforts to nab the accused are still on. In addition, section 144 was also imposed that prohibits the assembly of more than four people. this was done in the district’s Barhaj area, where the incident happened.

District Magistrate Amit Kishore said the restrictions would remain in force till September 15.
