Karnataka BJP challenges opposition; furnish details of citizens affected by CAA

Date:

In a political twist, the Karnataka unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has openly challenged everyone who is opposing the Citizenship (Amendment) Act or CAA, asking them to specify how Indian citizens will be affected by it.

In a tweet by Karnataka BJP, they mentioned that “Dear Opponents of the #CAA, please furnish the list of those Indian Citizens who will be affected by this Humanitarian Act. Also, please specify how they will be affected. We challenge that you will not be able to provide even a SINGLE NAME ! ! !” They tweeted this on Wednesday.

The BJP led NDA has received flak from many quarters especially the opposition after they amended the Citizenship law and granted fast track citizenship to persecuted minorities from India’s three neighbouring countries: Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh.

Since its passage in Parliament in December last year, the CAA has led to protests across the country. Many political parties, student bodies and other outfits have voiced their concerns over the CAA, accusing the government of dividing the country on religious lines by not including Muslims in the list of persecuted minorities.

The government, on the other hand, has made it explicitly clear that it is in no mood to roll back the CAA. They feel that the opposition parties are spreading lies about the law, and that reality needs to be told to the people of the country.

PM Modi has also, on various platforms, said that it will not affect any Indian citizen.

Today’s open challenge by Karnataka BJP was on the same line. As of now, there has been no remark from the opposition regarding this.
