COVID-19: Lockdown not the solution, says Rahul Gandhi

Date:

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has said that the lockdown initiated by the government wasn’t a solution to deal with the Coronavirus situation.

He went on to say that the virus can spread after the lockdown and called upon the government to evolve an effective strategy to manage this issue.

“I have been speaking to large number of experts, both in India and abroad, as well as outside the government who have a better understanding of what is going on. We need to understand that lockdown is a pause button, it’s not a solution to coronavirus,” Gandhi said.

He asked the government to ramp up the testing facilities across the country. “Our testing is not enough to understand where the virus is moving, and it has to go from chasing the virus to getting ahead of it,” he said.

He called on the government to involve all parties and find a way ahead of the crisis.

He also blasted the government for enforcing a lockdown without arranging for any facilities such as lodging and food which has inconvenienced large sections of the population.
