Fact Check: Video of migrant workers protest from Hyderabad is being shared as Gujarat

Date:

Amidst the ongoing migrant crisis, a video of a protest is being circulated on social media with a claim that it is from Gujarat.

” अहमदाबाद (गुजरात) में सड़को पर निकले हजारो मजदूर *राशन दो या गोली मार दो* …
ये कैसा गुजरात मॉडल है, फेकू मोदी का?” the caption read.

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the video and found that the claim is misleading.

We closely examined the video and noticed that ‘Hyderabad City Police’ was written on the protective vests of the policemen.

We then put the keyframes of the video through Reverse Image Search along with the relevant keywords and found the same video in a news bulletin by Siasat Daily uploaded on May 3, 2020.

As per the video description, the video is from Tolichowki in Hyderabad, Telangana.

Sakshi TV also uploaded the same video with the title, “Migrant Workers Protest In Tolichowki Over To Send Back To Their HomeTowns.”

Thus, from the above information, we can conclude that the video is from Hyderabad and not Gujarat. Hence, the claim is false.
