Fact check: Old video of CAA protest shared as communal violence in West Bengal’s Telinipara

Date:

Following reports of communal clashes in West Bengal’s Telinipara, a video is being shared on social media, in which people can be seen pelting stones near a railway track.

It is being claimed that the video is from recent communal riots in Telinipara in Hooghly district.

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above post and found that the video is old.

We extracted the keyframes of the video via InVid and put them through Reverse Image Search.

We found the same video uploaded on YouTube on Dec 13, 2019. “CAB Protest in Bengal || Train services in Howrah-Kharagpur section targeted, ” the title of the video read.

We also found a news report by ABP Ananda, dated December 13, 2019, stating that ‘train service came to a halt in the Howrah-Kharagpur divison after people, agitating against the amended Citizenship Act, blocked tracks at different places’.
The above information proves that the video has no relation to the recent communal clashes in West Bengal’s Telinipara.
