Amid the recent border tensions between India and China, U.S President Donald Trump today said the United States had informed both the countries that it was “willing and able to mediate or arbitrate” the “raging border dispute”.

“We have informed both India and China that the United States is ready, willing, and able to mediate or arbitrate their now raging border dispute. Thank you!” Trump tweeted.

Earlier in the day, China’s Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Zhao Lijian said that China’s position on the border-related issues is clear and consistent and called the border situation “overall stable and controllable”. He added that both countries have proper mechanisms and communication channels to resolve the issues through dialogue and consultation.

Chinese Envoy to India Sun Weidong, too, said that both India and China were fighting together against Covid-19 and have an important task to consolidate relations. “Our youth should realize the relation between China and India, the two countries are opportunities for each other and pose no threat,” Weidong said.

The troops of both India and China have been engaged in a stand-off at several points on the Line of Actual Control between both the countries. This follows face-offs between soldiers from both countries in East Ladakh and Sikkim sectors.

As per fresh reports, the Chinese military has been mobilizing over 5,000 troops along the LAC and has been setting up temporary infrastructure.

The Chinese Army has also reportedly transgressed into Indian territory in several area.

The stand-off is reminiscent of the 2017 Doklam stand-off that lasted for 73 days.
