COVID-19 | Fresh trouble ahead for South Korea as 58 cases reported

Date:

After containing the spread of the Sars-Cov-2 virus earlier in February, South Korea on Friday reported 58 fresh cases and this has led to fears of a relapse.

All these 58 cases have been reported from the Seoul Metropolitan region and is linked to a warehouse of one of the e-commerce companies.

According to the Korea Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, this has taken up the total number of cases in South Korea to 11,402 and 269 deaths.

This particular warehouse is being attributed to a spurt in fresh cases being reported. On Thursday, 82 cases were traced to this warehouse located in Bucheon. The e-commerce site that operates this is Coupang.

Officials have said that over 4,000 people are being traced and tested. These are the individuals who have either visited this place or were in contact with workers.

Prime Minister Chung-Sye-Kyun has asked the Health Department officials to increase their crackdown on this warehouse and all other workplaces that have bad working conditions.

South Korea has reported 177 fresh cases in the last three days and this has led to a fear of resurgence of a fresh wave of COVID-19 cases.

Earlier in May, an individual who visited a night club and interacted with around 5,000-6,000 people, tested positive.

This triggered outrage in Korea and led the authorities to trace 2,500-3,000 individuals who could have been potentially affected due to this one individual. It was at this point that South Korea feared the resurgence of a second wave.
