COVID-19 | Top 10 developments in India this Friday

India reported 407 deaths and the highest single-day spike of 17,296 new COVID-19 positive cases in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of people infected with coronavirus to 4,90,401. The death toll now stands at 15,301.

According to the Health Ministry Friday morning update, there are now 1,89,463 active cases and 2,85,637 people have cured/discharged/migrated.

Here are the top 10 developments in India this Friday:

1. All schools in Delhi will remain shut till July 31 in view of the coronavirus situation in the national capital, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said on Friday.

2. Commercial international flights to and from India shall stay suspended till July 15, Civil Aviation watchdog DGCA announced on Friday. The restriction will not apply to international cargo operations and flights specifically approved by the aviation regulator.

3. Maharashtra reported 175 deaths and 5024 new COVID-19 positive cases. Out of the total 175 deaths, 91 deaths are of last 48 hours and 84 deaths are of previous dates but recorded today. There are 65,829 active cases in the State: State Health Department

4. Tamil Nadu witnessed 3645 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, and the total infection has surged past the 74,000-mark.

5. Karnataka reported 445 new COVID-19 positive cases today, taking the total number of positive cases in the State to 11,005, including 6916 discharged, 3905 active cases and 180 deaths: State Health Department

6. Following a spurt in Covid-19 cases in Assam, a 12-hour night curfew will be imposed across the northeastern state 7 pm onwards on Friday and a 14-day complete lockdown in Kamrup district, which includes the Guwahati city, from Sunday midnight.

7. The Haryana government has decided to cap the charges of the main components of COVID-19 treatment at private hospitals. Meanwhile, malls in Gurgaon are likely to re-open next week, said officials from the district administration today.

8. Delhi reported 63 deaths and 3,460 COVID-19 positive cases today. Total number of cases stands at 77,240 including 47091 recovered/discharged/migrated, 27,657 active cases and 2,492 deaths: Delhi Government

9. 213 new COVID-19 positive cases have been reported in Jammu and Kashmir today- 58 from Jammu division and 155 from Kashmir division. The total number of cases stands at 6762 and the death toll is at 91: Government of J&K

10. Number of COVID-19 cases reach 2,725 in Uttarakhand, with the state reporting 34 new cases today: State Health Department
