Trump Reacts To Twitter Permanently Suspending Account Over ‘Risk Of Further Incitement Of Violence’

Date:

After the Capitol Hill ruckus on Wednesday in Washington DC, Twitter has taken the decision to permanently suspend US President Donald Trump’s account, citing a risk of further incitement of violence. Hundreds of angry pro-trump supporters barged into Capitol Hill and clashed with police just as Congress convened to validate Joe Biden’s presidential win.

Twitter late Friday blocked efforts by Trump to sidestep the ban.

He fired off tweets from the official presidential account @POTUS, accusing the company of conspiring with the “Radical Left.” The social network quickly deleted the tweets.

Twitter says it will continue to be transparent around its policies and their enforcement.

“Due to the ongoing tensions in the United States, and an uptick in the global conversation in regards to the people who violently stormed the Capitol on January 6, 2021, these two Tweets must be read in the context of broader events in the country and the ways in which the President’s statements can be mobilized by different audiences, including to incite violence, as well as in the context of the pattern of behavior from this account in recent weeks.” said Twitter.

Following the chaotic and violent scene that erupted to disrupt the Electoral College vote, a lockdown was enforced as various confrontations with police continued and four people died in the melee. The angry mob was reportedly incited by Trump who are defying the November 3rd 2020 election results which declares Joe Biden as the 46th President of the US. Biden is to be sworn in on January 20th.

Twitter had blocked Trump’s account from posting on their platform after the protests broke out in Washington. On Thursday Facebook and Instagram too took the decision to suspend Trump’s accounts indefinitely. Popular gaming platform Twitch has also banned Donald Trump’s official channel on its platform indefinitely.

Twitter unlocked the president’s @realDonaldTrump Twitter account after Trump removed three rule-breaking tweets. He returned to Twitter on Thursday with a video acknowledging that Joe Biden would be the next US president.
