Fact Check: Old Picture Of Clash Between Protestor and Cop In Lucknow Linked To Farmers’ Protest

Date:

After the violent clash between Delhi Police personnel and farmers that broke out during the tractor rally on January 26, a picture of a person wearing a T-shirt with PM Narendra Modi’s face on it and a policeman attacking each other with lathis is being shared on social media.

The caption of the picture read, ‘भाजपा कार्यकर्ता राष्ट्र हित में लाठी भाँजता हुआ! कपड़ों से ही पहचाना जा सकता है कि दंगाई कौन है!‘.

(Translation- BJP worker is flinging sticks in the national interest! Only the clothes can identify who is the rioter)

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above picture and found that the claim attached to it is false.

When we put the picture through Reverse Image Search, we came across the same picture in a report by OneIndia published on June 30, 2014.

According to the report, BJP workers in Uttar Pradesh staged a protest against the then ruling party Samajwadi Party (SP) due to lack of law and order and power crisis in Lucknow.

We also found a report by Rajya Sabha TV dated June 30, 2014, covering the same incident.

Hence, the above information proves that the picture is old and is not related to the ongoing farmers’ protest.
