The Uttar Pradesh government has said it will connect the upcoming international airport in Jewar with Greater Noida by introducing pod taxis. The driverless pod taxis accommodate four to six people and are a popular mode of transport in many western countries.
The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) stated that the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) will be tasked with developing the pod taxi service.
“We already have Metro connectivity till Greater Noida but Jewar is about 25 kilometers from Greater Noida city. To bridge this gap, pod taxis are being considered. Pod taxis are a revolutionary mode of transport widely being used in many western countries,” Dhirendra Singh, BJP MLA from Jewar in Greater Noida said.
As per reports, the estimated cost of the pod taxi project is Rs 50-60 crore per kilometer.
“The upcoming airport is easily approachable through road from Haryana, Rajasthan, Delhi and a large area of Uttar Pradesh. To help reduce travel time, we are working on pod taxis that will give a hassle-free travel experience to the commuters. Also, as the Film City will be developed in Jewar area, the pod taxi service will be of great help in connectivity,” YEIDA CEO Arun Veer Singh said.
