WHO Hails India On Two Billion COVID Vaccine Mark

Date:

A new record is set by India as it delivered more than 2 billion doses of the COVID vaccine on July 17. The nationwide vaccination campaign was launched on January 16, 2021.

On Sunday, India’s cumulative COVID-19 vaccination drive broke the 200 billion, a total of 2,00,00,15,631 doses had been given nationwide.

Since the campaign’s launch on January 16, 2021, it has taken the nation almost nine months to reach the 100-crore vaccine milestone and another nine months to reach the 200-crore vaccination mark.

Earlier on Friday, the government started a 75-day campaign for free booster shots at government centers, countrywide, to encourage people, even as India crosses a big milestone, the booster dose coverage has been a matter of concern. Only 8 percent of the country’s total population has got the third shot against Covid so far.

The campaign marks 75 years of India’s independence, which the country will complete next month.
