India Denies Reports Of Influencing Sri Lankan Presidential Election

Colombo: As Ranil Wickremesinghe became the new President of Sri Lanka, the Indian High Commission in Colombo on Wednesday categorically rejected the reports of India trying to influence the presidential elections in Sri Lanka.

The Indian High Commission in Sri Lanka took to Twitter and pointed out “baseless and purely speculative” media reports on efforts at the political level by India to influence the presidential elections in Sri Lanka.

The High Commission further added that “We categorically deny these media reports as completely false. They are clearly a figment of someone’s imagination.” They further said that India stands for and supports the realization and aspiration of the people of Sri Lanka “in accordance with democratic means and values,”.

The Indian High Commission stressed on the fact that they don’t interfere in internal affairs and democratic processes of other countries.

The statement came during the voting process of the election of the next president in the country.
