World Mental Health Day | Celebrities Who Opened About Their Mental Health

Mental health is not a hush-hush topic anymore! In the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, many people became more aware of the importance of mental well-being.

Many celebrities have also come out in recent years to normalise public conversations about mental health. Even though they appear to have the perfect lives, several A-list celebrities have openly discussed their difficulties with depression and low self-esteem.

On this World Mental Health Day, let us celebrate stars who have never been afraid to talk about their challenges with mental health.

Deepika Padukone

In an interview, Deepika Padukone revealed that she suffered from depression. She went on to build a mental health foundation – Live Love Laugh Foundation to assist others who are going through the same experience.

Shraddha Kapoor

In a 2019 interview, Shraddha Kapoor discussed her struggles with severe anxiety. She found the best way to deal with it is to embrace it. “You have to accept it as part of yourself and approach it with a lot of love. That made a big difference. Whether you have anxiety or not, you always need to understand who you are or what you stand for.” Kapoor said.

Virat Kohli

In an interview with a popular sports channel, Virat Kohli was candid about his feelings, his struggles with mental illness, and his coping strategies. After being open about his recent struggles, which had a deleterious impact on his mental health, the former Indian captain was completely sidelined from the game for a month. He stated, “Recently, I realised that I was feigning my intensity a little bit. I was trying to persuade myself that you had the intensity. Nevertheless, your body is urging you to quit. Your mind is telling me to stop and back up.”

Alia Bhatt

Alia Bhatt is no stranger when it comes to having days when she feels off-kilter mentally. Alia  opened up about her struggle with living with anxiety issues in a 2019 interview with Filmfare. “Initially, I’d be a little confused. I’d constantly give reasons that it’s because of work or maybe I’m tired or haven’t been able to meet anyone,” revealed the star. “What’s important is to accept it and not say that you’re fine. If you’re not feeling fine, then you should just say you’re not feeling fine,” she continued.

Naomi Osaka

Tennis star Naomi Osaka she shared her struggles with depression and anxiety with her fans. “The truth is that I have suffered long bouts of depression since the US Open in 2018 and I have had a really hard time coping with that,” she wrote on Instagram at the time. “I think now the best thing for the tournament, the other players and my well-being is that I withdraw so that everyone can get back to focusing on the tennis going on in Paris,” Osaka wrote. “I never wanted to be a distraction and I accept that my timing was not ideal and my message could have been clearer. More importantly I would never trivialize mental health or use the term lightly.”
