Fact Check: Old Video of Turkish Man Breaking TV During Football Match Falsely Linked to India-Pak T20 WC

Date:

The video of a man breaking a TV is doing the rounds on social media claiming that a Pakistani fan broke the TV after Pakistan lost to India in the ICC T20 World Cup match.

The video caption reads: Trends coming from Pakistan 😹🤣 #INDvsPAK2022

Here’s the link to the above post.

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the post, and found it to be false.

Running the reverse Image Search on keyframes of the video, we found the same video shared on YouTube, dated July 17, 2016, with a title: Turkish Fan Hidden Camera TV Prank (English Subtitles) EURO 2016.

The longer version of the same video had been shared by a YouTube channel in 2016, having a title: Turkish man destroys TV and MacBook after wife pranks him. In the video, we can see a football match playing on the TV instead of cricket.

The man’s wife in the video can be heard saying that she pranked her husband (named Izzet) by turning off the TV during the match, using the app on her phone. The man broke the TV in frustration after it shut down several times during the match.

The same video had also been published in a report by CNET and Daily Mail in 2016, mentioning that the man in the video is Izzet Salti.

Hence, it is clear that the video is old, and it has been edited.
