With the latest launch of ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation), India is emerging as a strong player in the global commercial market, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Sunday as he addressed the latest episode of “Mann Ki Baat”.
In a groundbreaking achievement, the space agency’s heaviest rocket, the LVM-3, last week sent 36 communication satellites into orbit as a part of a collaboration between its commercial wing, NSIL (NewSpace India Limited), and the UK-based OneWeb.
The next phase of the project, which will see the launch of 36 additional broadband satellites, will soon begin.
“is doing wonders in the space sector as well. The whole world, today, is astonished to see the achievements of India. After the space sector was opened for India’s youth, revolutionary changes started coming into it.” The PM said.
The heaviest rocket of the space agency has now joined the international commercial market with last week’s launch. “While talking to you people, I am reminded of the time when India was denied Cryogenic Rocket Technology. After that, the Indian scientists not just developed the space tech in India, but the ISRO has been sending dozens of satellites to space,” PM Modi said in his latest radio address.
His remarks were in reference to the Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV) project success of the ISRO and nearly ten years ago, the launch of the GSLV-D5 with a cryogenic engine. The space agency had battled with cryogenic technology for decades due to US sanctions and the Missile Technology Control Regime as well as other factors (MTCR).
