“Please note, if any of our products contain gelatine in the ingredients, the gelatine we use is halal-certified and derived from beef,” reads the text in the viral screenshot. Many social media users have shared the screenshot in the context that Cadbury products sold in India contain beef. People are also calling out to boycott Cadbury.
One such post was shared on Facebook with a caption: “Did you know Cadbury uses gelatin made from beef in their chocolates!!!! They have given out a disclaimer now and specified that it’s halal! I am grossed out! Never ever buying anything made by them
#BoycottCadbury”

A tweet, dated July 18, 2021, on the official handle of Cadbury Dairy Milk, has clarified that all the products manufactured and sold in India are 100% vegetarian.
“Hi, the screenshot shared in the tweet is not related to Mondelez products manufactured in India. All the products manufactured and sold in India are 100% vegetarian. The green dot on the wrapper signifies that,” the tweet informs.
The tweet, in a reply to the viral screenshot, further states: “As you can well imagine, negative posts like these, damages consumer confidence in our well-respected and loved brands. We request our consumers to please verify facts related to our products before sharing them further.”

Also, a tweet posted by Cadbury Dairy Milk has again clarified that the screenshot shared in the tweet is not related to Mondelez/Cadbury products manufactured in India.

We noticed that the domain name in the viral screenshot ends with “.com.au” meaning it should be from Australia.
Searching the Australian version of the Cadbury website, we found out that the screenshot was, indeed, from this website only. The halal-certified products are sold in a separate section on this website. However, we could not find any such section on the Indian version of the Cadbury website.
Thus, it is confirmed that a screenshot from the Australian version of the Cadbury Website is being shared with misleading claims.
