New Delhi: The multinational Ed-Tech firm BYJU’s announced football icon Lionel Messi as the Global Brand Ambassador of its social impact arm ‘Education for All’.
BYJU’s has signed a deal with Messi who will promote the cause of equitable education for all under the campaign.
A statement released added that this association with one of the world’s most popular sports persons is in sync with the expanding global footprint of BYJU’S and its commitment to making education accessible, equitable, and affordable for all.
Divya Gokulnath, Co-founder of BYJU’s, in a statement added that “That is the kind of opportunity that BYJU’S Education For All wants to create for the nearly 5.5 million children it currently empowers. No one represents the power of enhancing human potential more than Lionel Messi.
She further added “It is not really surprising that the greatest player of all time is also the greatest learner of all time. I am sure this partnership will inspire millions of people around the world to dream bigger and learn better. As football fans know, with Messi on your side anything is possible,”.
This deal comes in line with BYJU’S being the official sponsor for the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2022 to be played in Qatar.
Earlier last month, BYJU’S announced its plan to lay off 5% of the workforce, close to 2,500, to lower costs.
Talking about the recent deals signed by the company, A Business Line report quoting a source said that, “BYJU’s is estimated to spend about $5-7 million per year for this agreement with Messi, depending on the rights the company is getting. This is in addition to the $30-$40 million that the company must have spent on sponsoring the FIFA world cup.”
The news has left people across the country divided, with Netizens pouring in comments over the recent developments. Here are some of the reactions:
Logic anyone? That investors are still willing to fund this madness amazes me. #Byjus https://t.co/giSIGfhrIf

I don't understand how this #byjus functions. The founder makes sentimental statements about laying off people. Those not willing to put down papers are forced by HR to do. But they will have Messi as ambassador? Messi came free?
