Date:

A screenshot of a tweet attributed to Tesla CEO and the new owner of Twitter, Elon Musk, is doing the rounds on social media.

The tweet was in connection with Musk’s announcement of charging $8 from the blue tick holders stating that a section of social media will also have to pay $8.

The tweet in Hindi reads: “ट्विटर तेरे टुकड़े होंगे गैंग को भी $8 देने पड़ेंगे।” (English translation:  ‘Twitter Tere Tukde Honge’ gang will also have to pay $8)

The above post can be seen here.

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above tweet, and found it to be misleading.

Upon closely observing the screenshot, we noticed the Twitter handle (@iawoolford). We then looked up Elon Musk on Twitter and found his verified Twitter handle (@elonmusk)

We noticed that Twitter handle @iawoolford which belongs to Dr Ian Woolford changed the display name to Elon Musk and used the same profile picture as Musk.

On further looking up @iawoolford, we found that the account was suspended for violating Twitter rules.

Meanwhile, Twitter’s new owner in a series of tweets on Monday (November 7, 2022) announced that Twitter accounts will be permanently suspended for impersonating anyone.

So, the above findings establish that the tweet in question was falsely attributed to Elon Musk.
