Mangalore: An auto-rickshaw exploded in Mangaluru, Karnataka’s coastal town, under mysterious circumstances on Saturday.
The Police reported that the passenger in the auto-rickshaw was carrying a pressure cooker, and found that there was an improvised explosive device (IED) inside the cooker which exploded.
The passenger was also carrying an Aadhaar card which did not belong to him, the police said.
the DGP Karnataka on Sunday said that the fire that broke out in an auto rickshaw in the Kankanadi police station area is “not accidental” but an “act of terror.”
“It’s confirmed now. The blast is not accidental but an ACT OF TERROR with the intention to cause serious damage. Karnataka State Police is probing deep into it along with central agencies,” Tweeted DGP Karnataka.

The auto driver and a passenger sustained injuries and were admitted to the hospital on Saturday. The police officials rushed to the spot and are probing the reason behind the fire.
Citing the incident Karnataka Home Minister said that the state police have launched an intensive investigation into the auto-rickshaw blast incident that took place in Mangalore.
