Fact Check: Five Year Old Video Of Women Criticising PM Modi Resurfaces As Recent

Date:

Against the backdrop of the ongoing elections in Gujarat, a video of a large crowd of women criticising PM Modi by singing “Modi hai hai” is widely shared on social media.

The video is shared on Facebook with a caption: “मोदी हाय हाय मोदी. ये हम नहीं गुजरात की महिलाएं कह रही है” (English translation: “Modi hi hi Modi. It is not us but the women of Gujarat who are saying this.)

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim, and found it to be MISLEADING.

Performing a Reverse Image Search, we identified the same viral video tweeted on October 1, 2017, with a caption: “Modi’s Marcia”.

The same video had been uploaded by many users on Facebook in 2017. The verified Twitter handle of Aam Admi Party’s member had also carried the same viral video on October 4, 2017, with a caption: “Gujarati women’s gift for their ‘brother’ Narendra Modi ‘Hi Modi Hi Hi’ (This is a modification of Gujarati Marsiya)”.

Though we could not independently confirm the location and time of the viral video, it is evident that the viral is not recent. Therefore, the viral claim is misleading.
