Lalu Prasad Yadav, president of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), underwent a successful kidney transplant recently in Singapore. His daughter, Rohini Acharya, came to his aid as she donated one of her kidneys for surgery.
Against this backdrop, a viral picture showing Rohini Acharya on a hospital bed is doing the rounds on social media. Many users have claimed that Acharya donating her kidney to her father is a hoax. People also claim that this is a publicity stunt by the party to bring Lalu Yadav’s daughter into the limelight, and eventually into politics.
A Facebook user posted the viral picture with a caption:

Doing a Reverse Image Search of the viral picture, we identified a tweet — published on the Twitter handle of Rohini Acharya, dated December 5, 2022 — indicating that the picture was posted before the surgery.
To check the authenticity of the Twitter profile, we checked the followers’ list. We found that all the senior members of RJD along with the members of the Yadav family were following the account, thereby proving that it is the official Twitter handle of Rohini Acharya.
Also, we came across a news article, titled: Lalu’s daughter set to donate kidney to him today: ‘Ready to rock and roll’, published online by The Hindustan Times, dated December 5, 2022.
The image in the news report matches with the viral picture, clarifying that the picture was taken moments before the transplant surgery. The article further contains Acharya’s tweet as well.
Another tweet by Tejashwi Yadav — Deputy CM of Bihar, and Lalu’s younger son, dated December 6, 2022 — shows multiple images of Rohini resting on a hospital bed and drips attached to her body. He informs that his sister is healthy after the operation and praises her for doing such a selfless deed for her family.
Therefore, we can conclusively say that the viral picture, claiming Rohini Acharya did not donate her kidney to Lalu Prasad Yadav, is false.
