Fact Check: Did SRK Say Pakistan Is His Second Home? Here’s The Truth

Date:

In the ongoing controversy over the upcoming film Pathan, an alleged screengrab of a tweet by BBC Hindi with the words “Big statement” by Shah Rukh Khan has gone viral on social media.

The text in the viral tweet states that Khan considers Pakistan as his second home and that the first day’s Pathan collection will be donated to a Pakistani NGO. It further reads: “John Abraham extended his support to it. Deepika said that she was not afraid of the boycott gang before, and will not be afraid even now.”

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim, and found it to be FALSE.

We did a keyword search, but could not find any credible media report corroborating the viral claim. Had Shah Rukh Khan made such a statement, it would have been covered by mainstream media.

The Twitter handle of BBC News Hindi has also not carried any such tweet, dated December 15, 2020, as seen in the viral claim.

On analysing the viral image, we spotted “Twitter for Oksatire” written next to the date stamp in the alleged BBC Hindi tweet, suggesting its satirical nature.

Running a Google keyword search for “Ok Satire”, we traced a Facebook page with the same name. It’s the same tweet which had been posted on December 15.

Therefore, the viral screenshot of the tweet, which claims that SRK considers Pakistan as his second home, is misleading.
