FACT CHECK
NewsMobile fact-checked the viral video, and found it to be misleading.
Running a Reverse Image Search of the video keyframes, we traced an Italian news report titled: Texas, maxi tamponamento tra più di 120 veicoli, 6 le vittime | video (English translation: Texas, maxi rear-end collision between more than 120 vehicles, 6 victims | video), published online on February 12, 2021, in Panorama — an Italian weekly news magazine.
The video in the article matches exactly with the viral clip, and the article further informs that the incident happened in Fort Worth, Texas. Over 120 vehicles collided, causing 6 deaths.
Conducting a Google Keyword Search, we found a YouTube video, titled: Ice storm causes deadly crashes | WNT, published on the official channel of ABC News, dated Feb. 12, 2021.
Multiple keyframes of the video news bulletin match the viral video, confirming that the incident, indeed, happened in Texas, in 2021.
The news anchor corroborates the claim that the incident happened in Fort Worth, Texas, USA. The collisions occurred due to the accumulation of ice on the roads because of the winter storm in Texas in 2021. Over 30 people were injured and at least 6 died in the accidents. A similar news bulletin had been also carried by CNBC and Today.
Therefore, we can conclusively say that the viral video, claiming that 50 people died in a fatal accident in Buffalo recently, is misleading.
