FACT CHECK
NewsMobile fact-checked the viral video, and found it to be false.
If leopards were spotted on a university campus, they would have been covered by multiple media houses.
Putting the video keyframes through a Reverse Image Search, we traced a Portuguese news report, titled: Tapera Marruá? Casal de onças-pintadas é flagrado ‘morando’ em casa de fazenda em MS (English translation: Tapera Marruá? Couple of jaguars caught ‘living’ in a farmhouse in MS), published online on October 11, 2022, on Midiamax – a Brazilian newspaper. A similar report was found on October 12, 2022, published on Tudodoms – a news website run by a Brazilian Journalist Hosana Lourdes.
The image in the news report matches one of the keyframes. According to sources, these leopards were spotted in Miranda, in the Retiro Acurizal region of Brazil.
The video was also posted on Instagram, dated October 9, 2022, by a user named dr.brunofernandesvet. The caption of the post informs that the leopards were spotted living inside one of the houses in the Cristo Redentor Farm, Miranda – MS, Retiro Acurizal. This confirms that the video is from Brazil.
Therefore, we can conclusively say that the viral video of leopards on the Kovai Bharathiyar University campus is false.
