Fact Check: Visuals From ‘Game Of Thrones’ Fictitiously Linked To Turkey Earthquake

Date:

According to the latest reports, the death toll from the earthquake in Turkey has exceeded 37,000 and the World Health Organisation has called it Europe’s worst natural disaster in a century.

Against this backdrop, an image showing a couple lying in the ruins is widely shared on social media linking it to the Turkey earthquake.

The image is shared on Facebook with a caption: “ভালোবাসা সত্যিই সুন্দর – তুর্কির ভয়াবহ ভুমিকম্পে জড়ে যাওয়া দুটি ভালোবাসার ফুল” (English translation: Love is really beautiful Two love flowers entwined in Turkey’s horrific earthquake)

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim, and found it to be MISLEADING.

Doing a reverse image search of the viral image, we found these images on the Twitter handle of Independent News Channel Executive Editor Jenna Amatulli. She had posted another photo along with the viral one on May 20, 2019. She also mentioned the names of these two characters Cersei and Jaime using the hashtag “Game of Thrones”. So, the viral image cannot be related to the Turkey earthquake.

There are many similar images from the web series “Game of Thrones”. The viral image can also be seen here

Thus, it is confirmed that the visuals from a web series are falsely linked to the Turkey earthquake.
