IPL 2023: Nitish Rana To Lead Kolkata Knight Riders

Date:

Kolkata: After days of prediction over the next skipper who will lead the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for the upcoming IPL 2023, the franchise has appointed star batsman Nitish Rana as the stand-in captain in absence of Shreyas Iyer.

KKR skipper Shreyas Iyer recently suffered a back injury during the last test series against India and Australia.

KKR in an official statement added that “While we are hopeful that Shreyas will recover and participate at some stage in the IPL 2023 edition, we feel fortunate that Nitish, with the captaincy experience having led his state side in white ball cricket and the IPL experience he has had with KKR since 2018, will do a great job.”

Earlier, several media reports claimed that Sunil Narine was likely to lead the side this season. Nitish Rana has led the Delhi team in white-ball format.

KKR will kickstart the 2023 campaign with their first clash with Punjab Kings on April 1.
