Fact Check: 2015 Image Of Rickshaw Puller Goes Viral With Misleading Context

An image of a rickshaw puller is widely shared on social media, claiming that an old  rickshaw puller died recently while waiting for customers. 

The image is shared on Facebook with a caption: इन्तजार थी एक सवारी कि ये सवाल था एक रोटी का लेकिन न सवारी मिली न रोटी और इन्तजार में दम टूट गया। #Emotions #emaandari #roti (English translation: He was waiting for a ride, it was a question of bread and butter, but he neither got the ride nor the food and lost his breath while waiting. #Emotions #emaandari #roti)

NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim, and found it to be MISLEADING. 

We did a keyword search on Facebook and found the same viral image published in 2015 as well. 

The Facebook page of National News Story, dated December 16, 2015, accommodates a clearer version of the viral image showing two shirt-clad men beside the elderly rickshaw puller. According to the caption, the rickshaw puller died of a heart attack.  

Another Facebook user has also shared the same image, dated December 12, 2015, saying that an old rickshaw puller died of a heart attack near Patna airport. 

Though, we could not ascertain the exact time and location of the viral image, it is evident that the image is shared with misleading context.
