Fact Check: Does This Video Show People Attacking BJP Workers In Karnataka? Here’s The Truth

Date:

A video showing people attacking the BJP campaign chariot is doing the rounds on social media, claiming that the post is from the election-bound Karnataka.

The video was shared with the text: बीजेपी के प्रचार रथ का कर्नाटक में आम जनता जो हाल कर रही है वह हैरान कर देने वाला है। थोड़ी सी मर्यादा रखिए (English translation: What the general public has done to the chariot at the BJP campaign in Karnataka is astonishing. Have some decorum)

The above post can be seen here.

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the post, and found it to be false.

Running the keyframes of the video through Reverse Image Search, we traced a video report in Times Now, dated November 2, 2022, showing similar visuals, with a title: TRS Men Attacked BJP Workers As Battle For Telangana’s Munugode Turned Violent Ahead OF Bypolls.

The video description reads: Clashes erupted between TRS & BJP workers in Telangana’s Munugode during the last leg of the Munugode by-poll campaign. Viral videos show the two party workers attacking each other with sticks as police trying to separate them.

We also found reports by India Today and News 18 carrying similar visuals from different angles.

According to a report by The Siasat Daily, BJP alleged that TRS workers attacked its party cadre and Huzurabad MLA Eatala Rajender. The report also mentioned that many TRS and BJP workers were injured.

Thus, from the above fact check, it is clear that the video is old and not related to  Karnataka elections.
