IOA Prez PT Usha Says Wrestlers Protesting On Streets Tarnishing India’s Image; Wrestlers React

Date:

New Delhi: Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President PT Usha lashed out at the wrestlers protesting against the WFI chief and said that the protest is tarnishing India’s image.

In a statement, PT Usha said that “Wrestlers staging protests on streets amounts to indiscipline. Wrestlers’ protest on streets is tarnishing the image of India,”.

Responding to the remarks made by the IOA President, protesting wrestler Bajrang Punia told PTI that “We did not expect such a harsh response from IOA President PT Usha, we expected support from her.”

In connection with the allegations levelled by the wrestlers, IOA has reportedly constituted an adhoc panel comprising three members to manage the affairs of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) until a new governing body is elected.

Meanwhile, Union Minister Anurag Thakur claimed that the central government provided ample opportunities to the protesting wrestlers to present their case in front of the oversight committee and reiterated its commitment to an “impartial probe” into the charges against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.
