New Delhi: Tushar Mehta’s reappointment as the Solicitor General of India has received the approval of the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet. As the second-highest-ranking law enforcement officer after the Attorney General, the Solicitor General holds significant authority in legal matters.
Tushar Mehta assumed the role of Solicitor General for the first time in October 2018 and has since had his tenure extended on multiple occasions.
In addition, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has granted approval for the re-appointment of six law officers as Additional Solicitor General for the Supreme Court. The re-appointed law officers include Vikramjit Banerjee, KM Nataraj, Balbir Singh, SV Raju, N Venkataraman, and Aishwarya Bhati. Their tenure as Additional Solicitor General for the Supreme Court has been extended for a period of three years.
Furthermore, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has granted its approval for the reappointment of several law officers in different capacities. Chetan Sharma and Satya Pal Jain have been reappointed as Additional SGIs of the Delhi High Court. Advocate Devang Girish Vyas has been reappointed as Additional SGI for the Punjab and Haryana High Court, while Krishna Nandan Singh has been reappointed as Additional SGI of the Gujarat High Court.
