Mumbai: Rains continue in Mumbai on Saturday after heavy downpours lashed the financial capital on Friday, leading to waterlogging in low-lying areas and traffic disruptions.
A red-alert for rains has been issued for the Palgarh district neighbouring Mumbai on Saturday. Low-lying areas of Nallasopara and Vasai have started being inundated due to rains since early morning.
An orange alert, denoting the likelihood of heavy rains, has been issued for Mumbai and Thane.
Heavy rain disrupted traffic and local train services in Mumbai on Friday, the situation does not seem to be improving for commuters in Mumbai on Saturday.
Meanwhile, the IMD has forecast extremely heavy rainfall in Raigad and other parts of Maharashtra.
Besides, a cloudburst was reported in Uttarakhand. Scores of commuters, including tourists as well as locals, are stranded in Uttarakhand’s Uttarkashi after the Yamunotri National Highway was blocked at many places due to falling debris near Gangnani.
In Himachal Pradesh and Uttrakhand, heavy damage to properties has been reported after a cloud burst at four places on Friday. The Meteorological Department issued an orange Alert for 24 hours for seven districts of Uttarakhand on Friday.
It is estimated that there may be heavy rains in Haridwar, Uttarkashi, Tehri, Pauri, Dehradun, Pithoragarh, Bageshwar, and Champawat till Saturday afternoon.
