Fact Check: No, Amarnath Yatra Was Not Suspended On The Anniversary Of Abrogation Of Article 370

A post is being widely circulated on Internet, claiming that Amarnath Yatra was suspended for a day due to security concerns on the fourth anniversary of Article 370’s abrogation.

Article 370 was a constitutional provision that gave Jammu & Kashmir its special status and ability to formulate laws for the state’s permanent residents.

A Facebook user shared this news with a caption: “Amarnath Yatra will be suspended for a day from the Jammu base camp today owing to possible security concerns. August 5 marks the fourth anniversary of the abrogation of Article 370 and Article 35 A.”

NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim, and found it to be FAKE.

A tweet by Information & PR, J&K, dated August 4, 2023, refutes the viral claim.

The tweet reads: “Claim: Amarnath Yatra to remain suspended on 4th Anniversary of Article 370 Abrogation. #DIPRFactCheck : This news item is #FAKE The Yatra will be released as per norms.”

We also found a tweet by the official handle of Deputy Commissioner Jammu, refuting the viral claim.

The NM team also found a live-stream evening of aarti at Amarnath. It was streamed on August 5. In the video, people can be seen attending the aarti indicating that Amarnath Yatra was not suspended. At 10:16 of the timestamp, one can see the footage. However, some reports suggest that Amarnath Yatra is going to be cancelled soon due to bad weather conditions.
