On last Sunday, 10 bogies of the Hazara Express derailed near the Sahara Railway Station in Sindh’s Nawabshah district, 275 miles from Karachi, Pakistan, leaving at least 30 people dead and over 100 injured. Against this backdrop, a video showing an aerial footage of a train accident has gone viral on social media, claiming the aftermath of the train mishap in Pakistan.

A Facebook user shared this video and wrote: “At least 30 were killed and over 80 injured after as many as 10 bogies of Havelian-bound Hazara Express derailed today near Sahara railway station in Sindh’s Nawabshah district.”

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim, and found it to be FAKE.

Closely observing the video, our team noticed a logo of Odisha TV. With a keyword search, we found this viral video shared by Odisha TV on their official YouTube channel, dated June 3, 2023. The description of the video suggests that it was an aerial footage of the Balasore train accident site which took place in Odisha.

According to the reports, three trains, including Coromandel Express, Duronto Express, and a goods train, rammed into each other causing a massive collision. Around 291 people died and over 1,000 were injured in this train mishap. The railway minister told the media that the accident occurred due to a “change in electronic interlocking”.

We also found a similar aerial video in a report of Times Of India, ANI and The Independent mentioning it as footage of the Balasore train accident.

Thus, it is clear that the viral video is from the Odisha train accident, NOT related to the recent mishap in Pakistan.
