Fact Check: Old Image Falsely Shared As Protest By IT Staff In Hyderabad Against Chandrababu’s Arrest

Date:

A drone image of a vast crowd is widely shared on social media claiming that it shows a protest in Hyderabad, led by IT employees, rallying against the arrest of former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and TDP leader Nara Chandrababu.

The image is shared on Facebook with a caption: “సైబరాబాద్ నిర్మాత చంద్రబాబు గారికి మద్దతుగా హైదరాబాద్ లో భారీ నిరసన చేపట్టిన ఐటి ఉద్యోగులు” (English translation: See below.)

Here’s the link to the above post.

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim, and found it to be MISLEADING.

With the Reverse Image Search, our NM team identified a Twitter handle carrying the same viral image on August 19, 2022, with a caption: “Happy World Photography Day Location: Wipro Circle, Gachibowli, Hyderabad”.

The same image had also been published on an Instagram handle, dated August 19, 2022. So, this image cannot be related to the recent protests in Hyderabad.

As per the tweet description, this photo was actually taken during the National Anthem programme held near Wipro Circle. The video footage from the large-scale National Anthem programme, which took place near Wipro Circle in Gachibowli, Hyderabad, on August 16, 2022, as part of the 75th Independence Day celebrations, can be seen here and here

Thus, it is confirmed that an old unrelated image is falsely shared as protests by the IT employees in Hyderabad against Chandrababu’s arrest.
