An image showing a drone on the ground is extensively circulated on social media, claiming that the Indian security forces shot down Pakistan’s drone carrying cash and ammunition after it tried to enter in Line of Control (LOC) area. Some cash, rifles magazines and belts can be seen in the viral images.
A Facebook user shared this image and wrote: “Vigilant SFs shot down a Pák drone carrying cash, ammunition in #JammuKashmir‘s #Rajouri. 05 AK magazines & cash dropped from this drone were also recovered near the LoC.”

Putting the image through Reverse Image Search, our team found the original picture in a tweet by news agency ANI, dated April 13, 2023. The caption of the tweet reads: “On the intervening night of 12-13 April, alert troops of Indian Army in coordination with J&K Police recovered a drone crossing the Line of Control from Pakistan into Indian territory in Beri Pattan area of Sunderbani sector, District Rajouri (J&K). 131 Rounds of AK-47, 5 Magazines, ₹2 Lakh in cash have been recovered. According to the ABP News report, dated April 13, 2023, a drone from Pakistan was brought down by security forces as it crossed the Line of Control (LoC) in Rajouri district. The drone was recovered from the BERI Pattan area of the Sunderbani sector during joint searches by the Army troops and Jammu and Kashmir Police. Cash worth ₹2 lakh, 131 rounds of AK 47 rifle and five magazines were recovered from the packet attached to the drone. Drones smuggling in arms, cash and narcotics has become a major challenge for security forces in border areas of both the International Border and LoC.
Thus, it is clear that the viral image is at least six months old and not related to any recent infiltration.
