Harvard professor Claudia Goldin has been honoured with the Nobel in Economic Sciences (Sveriges Riksbank Prize) for her groundbreaking research. She was honoured with the prestigious award “for having advanced our understanding of women’s labour market outcomes,” said the Nobel Prize Committee. Her work illuminated a U-shaped curve in female labour force participation over a 200-year period. Goldin’s research revealed a decline during the transition from agrarian to industrial society in the 19th century, followed by a resurgence with the growth of the service sector in the 20th century.
