New Delhi: Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court on Tuesday extended the custody of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Sanjay Singh, arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with the alleged Delhi liquor scam and facing charges of money laundering. The custody extension is effective until Friday.
The ED had sought further custody, stating the lack of cooperation from Sanjay Singh and his associate, Sarvesh Mishra. The agency also said that evidence collected indicates the demand for a bribe in relation to clearing liquor licences. Singh was produced in court after five days of ED custody.
Meanwhile, Delhi police detained AAP workers who were protesting against the arrest of Singh by ED. The AAP workers were demanding the immediate release of the party MP.
Earlier, Singh had been remanded to five-day ED custody at Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court. The Enforcement Directorate had sought a ten-day remand from the AAP MP.
Singh was taken into custody by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) following an extensive day of questioning by ED officials at his residence in Delhi on October 5.
