Parking Fees For Private Vehicles Doubled In Delhi Amid Rising Pollution

Date:

New Delhi: In an effort to address the rising pollution levels in Delhi, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has doubled the parking fees at locations within its authority. This measure is now in effect and is slated to continue until January 31, 2024.

The NDMC has doubled the parking fees for both on-road and off-road parking.

The NDMC directly manages 41 out of the total 91 parking locations, outsourcing the management of the remaining spaces. Key areas under the NDMC’s parking management include busy zones like Sarojini Nagar market, Khan Market, Lodhi Road, INA, AIIMS, and Safdarjung between Rajpath and AIIMS.

The decision aligns with the Graded Action Response Plan (GRAP) Stage IV guidelines, which are currently active due to the city’s deteriorating air quality. Under GRAP, the government categorizes necessary actions based on air quality indices (AQI), with Stage IV indicating ‘Severe Plus’ conditions where AQI levels exceed 450.

The existing fee structure of the NDMC charges Rs 20 per hour, with a daily limit of Rs 100 for four-wheelers at surface parking locations. Two-wheelers are billed at Rs 10 per hour, with a maximum daily charge of Rs 50. Monthly parking passes are offered at Rs 2,000 for cars and Rs 1,000 for two-wheelers.

The NDMC offers parking at multilevel facilities and Palika underground parking at a rate of Rs 10 for up to four hours for cars and Rs 5 for the same duration for two-wheelers
