Fact Check: Did India Defeat Australia To WinWomen’s Hockey World Championship? Here’s The Truth

Date:

A video of Indian women’s hockey team is widely circulated on social media, claiming that they defeated Australia in the finals of the Women’s Hockey World Championship.

(English translation: We lost the Cricket World Cup, it’s really sad. Meantime, a happy news… Indian hockey team has won the “Women’s Hockey World Championship” and that too against Australia. The girls of our country have changed Jai Hind, Jai Bharat.)

Here’s the link to the above post.

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the post, and found it to be misleading.

Going through the post minutely, the NM team noticed ‘Women’s Asian Champions’ written on the arch in the background. And the same video had been shared by Economic Times on November 6, 2023, with a title: “Asian Champions Trophy: Indian Women’s Hockey team celebrates after beating Japan by 4-0.”

The International Hockey Federation has also shared an image of the India team holding the trophy with a headline: “Jharkhand Women’s Asian Champions Trophy Ranchi 2023: India clinch second gold by beating Japan, China wins Bronze.”

The highlights of the match are available on the YouTube channel of Sony LIV.

Thus, we can conclusively say that the viral post’s claim over India’s win Against Australia in the Women’s Hockey World Championship finals is misleading.
