Fact Check: BJP Is Yet To Name CM For Rajasthan; Viral Letter Is Fabricated

Date:

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has won 115 out of 199 seats in Rajasthan. Meantime, a letter is being circulated on social media, in the name of BJP, claiming that the party has released a list of chief ministers and deputy CMs for Rajasthan. As per the list, Mahant Balaknath Yogi has been named the chief minister of Rajasthan, while Kirori Lal Meena and Diya Kumari have been elected as deputy chief ministers.

[English translation: Happy to announce Mahant Balaknath Yogi ji for the post of chief minister. Now bulldozer will run in Rajasthan also on the lines of UP CM Yogi  Adityanath. Hearty congratulations to the Central leadership as well as to Prime Minister and the home minister. Jai Shri Ram.]

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the post, and found it to be False.

Our team came across a report in Hindustan Times, dated December 04, 2023. According to the report, commenting on who will bag the top spot, a BJP leader said the decision regarding the CM “will be taken in a couple of days”. Among the leading contenders for the job are two-time chief minister Vasundhara Raje, Union minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Union law minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, and two-time parliamentarian from Chittorgarh CP Joshi. Baba Balaknath, 48, BJP’s Lok Sabha member from Alwar, is another dark horse in the race among BJP leaders.

Another tweet by the official X account of Rajasthan BJP, dated 6 December 2023, also carries the viral letter. However, BJP has called it a fake.

As BJP is yet to name the new chief minister of Rajasthan, we can conclusively say that the viral tweet is fake.
