Surat: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the Surat Diamond Bourse (SDB) building, a part of the Diamond Research and Mercantile (DREAM) City in Gujarat, on December 17.
This building, situated in Khajod village near Surat city, marks the world’s largest office space. On Tuesday, 135 diamond trading firms commenced operations at the SDB, with 26 permanently relocating from Mumbai.
The inauguration ceremony is scheduled for December 17, as announced by SDB’s media convener, Jayanti Navadiya.
During Dussehra, 983 traders took possession of their offices at the SDB, with more traders continuing the process daily.
The statement also revealed that former Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel initiated the DREAM City project, including the SDB, during a groundbreaking ceremony in February 2015.
The SDB, spanning 67 lakh square feet, now holds the distinction of being the world’s largest office building, accommodating nearly 4,500 diamond trading offices.
This mega structure, located on a 35.54-acre plot within DREAM City, features nine towers with office spaces ranging from 300 sq ft to 1 lakh sq ft across its ground-plus-15 floors.
