Date:

A video of a water cannon being used on several people with Israeli flags is doing rounds on social media with a claim that it shows New York Police using water cannons to disperse protesters at JFK Airport.

The post read, “Who would love to be pulling the trigger? I wish NYPD Used a Water Cannon at JFK Airport after deeming protesters a ‘Terror Threat’ for taking over Airport Road.”

Here’s the link to the above post.

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the post and found it to be misleading.

We extracted the keyframes of the video and put them through Reverse Image Search. The search led us to the same video, which was uploaded by Daily Mail on Jul 25, 2023, with the title, “Dramatic moment Israeli police blast water cannon at anti-government protesters.”

As per the video description, people were protesting against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s govt over a bill. It read, “The Knesset on Monday approved the first major law in Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s contentious plan, triggering a new burst of mass demonstrations, drawing accusations that he was pushing the country toward authoritarian rule. The vote, passed unanimously by Netanyahu’s governing coalition after the opposition stormed out of the hall, deepened the fissures that have tested the delicate social ties that bind the country, rattled the cohesion of its powerful military and repeatedly drew concern from Israel’s closest ally, the United States. Footage showed thousands of flag-waving protesters taking to the streets, blocking highways as they marched to show their anger over the law’s passage. Israel’s security forces responded by using water cannons to blast demonstrators in an attempt to clear them. Others were seen throwing protesters to the ground and dragging them away from the crowds.”

The Independent shared the same video with the description, “Israel’s parliament voted to curb the powers of the Supreme Court, a key part of Benjamin Netanyahu’s divisive judicial overhaul, despite massive nationwide protests that have exposed deep rifts within the country.”

The video dated July 25, 2023, was titled, “Israeli police fire water cannons at protesters after controversial judicial bill passes.”

Thus, from the above fact check, it is clear that the video is old and is being shared with a misleading claim.
