FACT CHECK
NewsMobile fact-checked the above post, and found that the picture in question is AI-generated.
The NM team found an archived post on the Instagram account of Palestinian photojournalist Mohammad Al Mashri, posted on 27th January. He had shared this photo alongside several others portraying the distressing life of children in Gaza during the rain.
In a caption, he writes: “Imagine with me, you human! Imagine that these children are your own. Imagine that these children are your siblings. Imagine with me that these children are your relatives. In Gaza, in the tents of the displaced, children, women, and the elderly die a thousand times every second! Without water, without food, without cover, without clothes, without tents, they lie on the ground! Did you imagine with me, you human!”
It’s unclear from Mr Mashri’s post whether the photo is real or AI-generated. However, the image gained traction after being shared online, and he later removed it from his post. Upon closely observing the picture, we noticed inconsistencies such as finger count and abnormalities in the nose and ears, resembling traits often seen in AI-generated images.
Putting the image through Hive Moderation — a tool that detects AI-generated content, it reveals that the picture in question is 99.6% likely to be AI-generated.
Thus, we can conclusively say that the picture in question is not authentic as it is AI-generated.
