Fact Check: 2020 Image Of Farmers Protesting Against Farm Bills Falsely Shared As Recent

Amidst the ongoing farmers’ protests, a picture of protesters sitting on a jeep with the Mercedes logo is circulating on social media. Many users claim that it is from the ongoing farmers’ agitation, suggesting that protesters own expensive cars like the Mercedes Benz, which costs over ₹4 crore.

A Facebook user posted the viral image with a caption: THIS IS MY DEVELOPING INDIA: A group of poor farmers arrived in a ₹4 crore Mercedes to block the road.

On putting the picture through Reverse Image Search, the NM team found a post on X (formerly known as Twitter), dated December 23, 2020, with a similar claim. Additionally, we found another X post from 2020, which had the same image.

Digging further, our team discovered the car owner’s Instagram handle, featuring the same image.
