Date:

A video of former UP Chief Minister and SP chief Akhilesh Yadav is doing rounds on social media with a claim that Akhilesh Yadav went to Delhi to meet the farmers.

The post read, “पूर्व मुख्यमंत्री अखिलेश यादव किसानों से मिलने के लिए दिल्ली पहुंचे अखिलेश यादव जिंदाबाद जय जवान जय किसान आंदोलन”

(English translation: Former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav reached Delhi to meet farmers Akhilesh Yadav Zindabad Jai Jawan Jai Kisan Andolan)

Here’s the link to the above post.

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the post and found the video to be old.

We extracted the keyframes of the video and ran them through Reverse Image Search. The search led us to the same video that was uploaded on Facebook in January 2020. The post mentioned that the video was taken in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh.

Taking a cue from this, we ran another search. We found a similar image on Twitter which was uploaded by the official account of Samajwadi Party on January 9, 2020, with the caption, “National President’s visit to Kanpur. Shri Akhilesh Yadav reached the house of people killed during the anti-CAA movement in Babupurwa area. Expressed condolences after meeting the bereaved family members! Promised to support the struggle for justice by providing financial help. Socialists stand firmly with every oppressed person.”

The official account of Akhilesh Yadav also shared the same image with the caption, “A few moments of sharing grief by meeting the families of those who became victims of government violence in Kanpur due to CAA.”

Thus from the above post, it is clear that the viral video is old and the post is false.
