IPL 2024: Rajasthan Royals Defeat Delhi Capitals By 12 Runs

Date:

Jaipur: Rajasthan Royals clinched a 12-run win over Delhi Capitals on Thursday at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. DC struggled to push for runs as the wicket got slower and RR held on to their line and length.

Avesh Khan secured the victory for RR by successfully defending 20 runs in the last over. Avesh conceded only 8 runs in the crucial 20th over, showcasing exceptional bowling prowess under pressure. Nandre Burger and Yuzvendra Chahal each claimed two wickets for the Royals, while Avesh Khan also made a valuable contribution with a wicket of his own.

Earlier, RR staged a sensational recovery after a shaky start in their encounter against DC. RR posted 185 runs at the loss of five wickets.

Initially struggling at 57/3 within the first 10 overs, the Royals seemed to be faltering. However, a resilient display by Riyan Parag ensued as RR surged to 128/2 in the next 10 overs. Notable contributions came from unexpected quarters, with Ravichandran Ashwin’s strategic promotion to number 5 proving pivotal in steadying the innings.

His calculated aggression, coupled with Dhruv Jurel’s support, laid the groundwork for what would unfold as an enthralling spectacle. However, it was Riyan Parag who truly seized the moment. Parag exhibited patience and composure, allowing his partners to flourish before unleashing his own onslaught.

Parag was the highest run-scorer for RR with a brilliant 84 off 45 balls. Ashwin’s quickfire 29 off just 19 balls and crucial contributions from Jurel and Shimron Hetmyer, with 20 and 14 runs respectively, further fortified Rajasthan’s resurgence

Earlier, DC skipper Rishabh Pant won the toss and elected to bowl first against the Sanju Samson-led Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Thursday at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.

After winning the toss DC captain Rishabh Pant said “We’ll bowl first. The wicket looks fine and we want to use it, there might be some dew in the 2nd innings. Feels good to play 100 matches for the same franchise, but every game is important for me. Most of the concerns are regarding injury, but these are things you can’t control. Two changes for us – Ishant hasn’t recovered, Shai Hope has a back spasm. Anrich Nortje and Mukesh Kumar come in.”

Delhi Capitals (Playing XI): David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, Ricky Bhui, Rishabh Pant(w/c), Tristan Stubbs, Axar Patel, Sumit Kumar, Kuldeep Yadav, Anrich Nortje, Khaleel Ahmed, Mukesh Kumar

Rajasthan Royals (Playing XI): Yashasvi Jaiswal, Jos Buttler, Sanju Samson(w/c), Riyan Parag, Shimron Hetmyer, Dhruv Jurel, Ravichandran Ashwin, Trent Boult, Yuzvendra Chahal, Sandeep Sharma, Avesh Khan
