Four Killed, Five Wounded In Stabbing Incident In North Illinois

Rockford: Four people are dead and five wounded after stabbings in North Illinois on Wednesday. As per the Rockford Police Chief Carla Redd, a suspect is in police custody and was being questioned on Wednesday afternoon. She said that one of the injured remains in critical condition.

The population of Rockford is around 150,000 and it’s 144.84 kilometres northwest of Chicago. Redd said during a media brief that her heart goes out to the families who are suffering right now. She said that the Rockford police chief received a medical call at 1:14 PM, followed by additional calls for police and paramedics, she also added that four individuals are deceased, one in critical condition and the other four are in stable condition.

Redd mentioned that not all of the victims had stab wounds and none of them were shot. She added by saying that they have a suspect in custody who is being interviewed at this time. She added that at this time they don’t believe that at this point there are any suspects on the run or at large. She also said that the police don’t have a clear motive regarding why the suspect committed this crime.

Sherrif Gary Caruana said that the suspect was arrested by a Winnebago County Sheriff’s deputy. A resident told a local channel that she witnessed the arrest on Wednesday. The resident said that they started hearing police screaming on both sides of the house to stop and get down.

She added by saying that they ran into the backyard and after a few minutes they saw the police bringing the suspects down the driveway in handcuffs and the suspect was very bloody. She said that it was like a movie and she had never seen anything like this.

Rockford Mayor Tom McNamara wrote on the city’s Facebook page that multiple jurisdictions are working on multiple crime scenes to develop an understanding of what transpired to prevent this from happening again. The violence on Wednesday came days after a teenage employee was stabbed and killed inside a Walmart store in Rockford.

McNamara added that today they are shocked by another act of horrific violence against innocent members of the community. She also said that the suspect is in custody and the threat has been neutralised. She also said that now the suspect is in custody the primary concern is to ensure that the community members affected by this incident get the support needed for their healing and recovery.
