Fact Check: 2021 Video Goes Viral As Recent Attack On BJP Candidate Ashok Tawar’s Convoy In Haryana’s Sirsa

Date:

A video has gone viral on social media, claiming that people threw stones at the convoy of the BJP candidate Ashok Tawar in Sirsa, Haryana.

(English translation: People of Haryana gave Bharat Ratna to former Congress — former TMC — former Aam Aadmi Party, currently BJP leader Ashok Tawar. After becoming a BJP candidate, he gets love from the public.)

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim, and found it to be FALSE.

Searching further, the NM team found a clip uploaded by a portal Pahredar Bharat, dated July 11, 2021, featuring the same individuals seen in the viral video with a description that farmers in Sirsa had vandalised the car of Haryana Deputy Speaker Ranbir Gangwa.

We also traced a report on the ETV Bharat website, dated July 11, 2021, featuring images related to the scenes depicted in the viral video.

The Aaj Tak website also carries a report, dated July 12, 2021, mentioning that farmers had protested against Ranbir Gangwa while he was attending the party executive meeting. The protest resulted in damage to his car, and the police intervened, leading to injuries among the farmers.

Therefore, we can conclusively say that the viral video’s claim that recently the BJP leader Ashok Tawar’s convoy was attacked in Sirsa is misleading.
