Fact Check: Picture Of Al Bayt Stadium In Qatar Shared As COVID-19 Centre Built In Indore

Date:

An aerial view of a huge complex is being widely shared on social media claiming that it shows a sprawling 6,000-bed COVID-19 care centre constructed by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in Indore.

“2nd largest Covid care centre in India. In Indore, RSS has constructed a 6000-bed Covid treatment centre and four oxygen plants on 45 acres of land,” reads the text superimposed on the picture.

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim and found it to be FAKE.

Using Reverse Image Search, we found the viral image in a report by ‘Qatar Tribune’. The report clearly mentions that the picture is of Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor city of Qatar.

This stadium is the venue of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, as per the official website. A similar image can be seen here as well.

We searched for Al Bayt stadium’s picture on Getty Images and found several similarities between the structure seen in the image uploaded on the website and the viral one.

We searched on Google with the help of relevant keywords and came across a news report that mentioned that the Indore district administration had initiated the work to convert Radha Soami Satsang Beas (RSSB) ground to a COVID-19 care centre. This centre would have the capacity of accommodating 2000 beds. There was however no mention of RSS building the said facility.

We also scanned RSS’ official website but could not find any update corroborating the viral claim.

Hence, it is evident that social media users falsely claimed that RSS has built the COVID-19 care facility in Indore and an image of Qatar’s stadium is being circulated to give credence to the viral claim.
